Powering Growth: Algeria’s Strategy to Boost Gas Production and Diversify Energy
Mr. Choeib Boutamine
June 29, 2025
Algeria is preparing for a significant increase in domestic gas consumption, driven by its ambitions for economic growth and industrial development. With a national goal of raising GDP from $270 billion to $400 billion, energy demand is expected to rise substantially across all sectors.
To meet this challenge, Algeria plans to increase its natural gas production to 200 billion cubic meters—almost doubling current levels of 100 to 104 billion cubic meters. This expansion reflects both rising domestic needs and the country’s commitment to maintaining its role as a key regional energy player amid international energy challenges.
The government is pursuing a diversified energy investment strategy, focusing on both conventional and non-conventional sources.
Renewable energies will play an increasingly important role in Algeria’s energy mix, alongside natural gas. The integration of environmentally friendly and advanced technological solutions is central to this approach.
