Panel 1 : 09H:00 to 10H:00

Decarbonization projects in Algeria

Algeria is a rich country with natural resources including Oil & Gas and Minerals , considered as the largest producer of natural gas in the African continent so more that half if its outputs are oriented for the exports , as the global orientations towards net zero emissions by 2050 are ongoing , the actors activating in this sector have to be more than engaged to reduce carbon and methane emissions , to meet the global commitments to curb the emissions , Oil and Gas companies have been involved in many projects reshaping their vision to lessen the negative impact on the environment , in order to dampen the rising amounts of emissions, many countries have already put a road map and customized regulations to control their imported products , Oil and gas are not excluded from this equation , as Algeria is large supplier of oil and gas , it’s obviously clear that the local operators activating in the sector have to be involved in this policy, Sonatrach has already planned to reduce flaring gas to zero by 2030 which a will add a crucial economic added value and also enhancing the efforts to protect the planet , at this point ; service companies, contractors are showing a huge interest to act towards this ambitious plan , to prop up this vision; this panel has been designed to discuss the rising projects of decarbonization in the country and how to unify ideas to pave the way to produce cleaner barrel and a cubic meter of natural gas .

Panel 2:  11H35 to 12H:35

Combining natural gas and Green Hydrogen for a smooth energy transition

It’s obviously clear that natural gas is playing a crucial role in energy transition as it’s the cleanest among fossils that’s why its considered the locomotive of any transition because of its unique advantages as a source of energy-a source of petrochemistry and fertilizers- its emissions are lower than Coal by roughly 60 % , the expansion of its utilization is remarkably rising , The OxfordEnergy estimates its growth by an extra 400 bcm by 2030 or 1% Annually so more investments are required to meet the global demand but natural gas is not the only source of energy available in Algeria, green hydrogen will play a pivotal role in the energy transition ; the biggest country of Africa in surface area, the Sahara is occupying 80% its share , the potential of renewable energies is largely beneficial and can rank the country among the largest spaces to capture sunlight , this will bolster and position the country to play an unvaluable role to supply Europe and other regions with clean electricity- clean hydrogen and also clean natural gas if the green electricity will fully integrated in all the supply chain of natural gas production.
In this panel will delve into the combination of these vital sources for exports under the form of blending or as ammonia, exploiting these sources will be not achievable without taking into account the economic aspect as it requires water-green electricity and clean natural gas with weak content of emissions.

Panel 3 : 15H:35 to 16H:40

Decarbonizing Natural gas from drilling operations to delivery ; Piped Natural Gas VS LNG

Algeria is a pioneer country in kind of natural gas production , the first commercial LNG shipment has been launched from the west of the country in 1964 , with the rising demand on natural gas as a source of energy and of various uses ; several firms have been focusing on its extraction-processing-transportation, the crossing itinerary to deliver it to the end user is not carbon neutral as many factors are involved depending on the place of extraction -depth- the electricity source and all of the supply chain but more importantly the physical state of its shipment, the late is making a huge gap of carbon emissions as LNG is requiring to drop its temperature to -160 deg Celsius enabling us to transport it for a long distances , degasify it put it ready for consumption , the LNG process dissipate more energy and so more emissions , in this Panel we will discuss how the shipments of natural gas from Algeria are highly competitive in carbon emissions as the main clients are located in Europe so short distance means also short trips , but we have to highlight that electricity in Algeria is mostly generated from natural gas ( more 98 %) and Coal or Oil enter in this equation which is making a clean grid compared to many ones.
this will hugely favorize the country to deliver more volumes of natural gas but with less emissions, this will certainly attract more investors looking to produce more with less carbon.
