Energy advisor and CEO of Ranadrill Consulting, Mr. Choeib Boutamine, underlines in a special interview with “Radio Channel One” that attracting other natural gas producing countries such as the United States to the 7th Summit of Heads of State and Government of the Gas Exporting Countries Forum (to be held between February 29th and March 2nd, 2024 in Algiers) will be of great importance.
Mr. Choeib Boutamine highlights that the world’s largest producer of natural gas is the United States, with more than 1,080 billion cubic meters of natural gas annually.
The CEO of Ranadrill Consulting says that the upcoming Algiers summit will be an opportunity to achieve understanding and identify the forum’s priorities in the light of the recent international geopolitical changes.
Mr. Choeib Boutamine “Since Algeria is a founding country of the Gas Exporting Countries Forum, it plays a major role within this forum due to its strategic location in the African continent, and for its being the closest and main gas supplier to the European continent”.
He points out that the Sonatrach group currently exports gas to Europe via a network of pipelines estimated at 23,000 kilometers extending from Algeria to Europe via Tunisia, and from there to Italy, Spain, and east European countries, which gives Algeria a greater advantage at this stage.
Algeria is expected to be a strategic link in the future between Africa and Europe in the gas market, particularly after the completion of the project to transport Nigeria’s gas via Niger to Algeria and from there to Europe, which will enable it to export more than 30 billion cubic meters annually.
Organizing an event as big as the 7th Summit of Heads of State and Government of the Gas Exporting Countries Forum highlights the important role played by Algeria within the Gas Exporting Countries Forum as a founding member, and on the international energy scene as a reliable energy supplier.
